Segment 2 — Origin: "Why Bourbon" (centerpiece, ask in order)
1. "Take me back to the first time bourbon actually clicked for you — not the first time you drank it. The first time you got it. Where were you?"
2. "What was in the glass that night? Who poured it for you?"
3. "Was there a person who turned you onto it — a grandfather, a mentor, a bartender who was patient with you?"
4. "What did you taste in that moment that you didn't have words for yet?"
5. "When did you stop calling it 'whiskey' and start calling it 'bourbon'?"
6. "What was the first bottle you ever bought with intention — not grabbed, but sought out?"
7. "At what point did the collection start? First bottle you bought two of — one to drink, one to keep?"
8. "What's the worst whiskey you ever forced yourself to finish, and why did you stick with it?"
9. "If you had to pick one pour that started everything — the bottle responsible for you sitting here — what is it?"
10. "What's the first bourbon fact you learned that made you feel like an insider?"

Segment 1 — Cold Open (platform moment)
  - "Before we start — for anyone listening who doesn't know you — who is [guest] and why should they care?"
  - "What's the drink in your hand right now? What are we starting the show with?"
  - "One-line version: how does a [day job] end up running a [distillery/bar/club]?"
  - "What's the best compliment you've ever gotten about your [whiskey/place/picks]?"
  - "What's something about your world that people get wrong?"

Segment 3 — The Craft (distiller variant)
1. "Walk me through a mash bill like I'm a smart guy who's never made one — what goes in yours and why?"
2. "What's the grain you're secretly obsessed with right now?"
3. "Where does your water come from? Does it matter?"
4. "What's the longest you've waited on a barrel, and what did it feel like the day you tasted it?"
5. "What's a mistake you made early that you'd never make again — and what did it teach you?"
6. "What's your favorite part of the process? Least favorite?"
7. "If you could steal one technique from any distillery in the world, what would it be?"
8. "What's the batch you're proudest of, and why?"
9. "Tell me about a bottle that didn't turn out — what went wrong?"
10. "What do people misunderstand about how long whiskey actually takes?"

Non-distiller variants (bar buyer, club leader, collector)
  - "You taste everything that comes through — what's the pour you keep coming back to?"
  - "What's the bottle that surprised you most this year?"
  - "Walk me through your shelf — the five bottles that always stay stocked?"
  - "What's the most you've ever paid for a bottle, and was it worth it?"
  - "What's the most underrated bottle on the market right now?"
  - "What's the allocation chase actually like? Walk me through a drop day."

Segment 4 — The Pour (dead-space insurance)
When any answer runs short anywhere: "Let's pour another sip while you think about that."
1. "We always pour for our guests — what are we drinking tonight, and why this one?"
2. "Close your eyes. What's the nose telling you — sweet or spicy?"
3. "First sip. What hits you first — the front of the palate or the back?"
4. "What does the finish do? Does it linger or leave?"
5. "Is this a 'think about it' whiskey or a 'talk to your friends' whiskey?"
6. "If this pour were a song, what song is it?"
7. "If you had to pair this with one meal, what are we eating?"
8. "Ice, water, or neat — and why are you right?"
9. "What would you tell a beginner to look for in this exact pour?"
10. "What's the one pour you'd hand someone to change their mind about bourbon forever?"

Segment 5 — The Scene + The Club
1. "Why do you think whiskey brings people together in a way other drinks don't?"
2. "What does a gentleman's club mean in 2026 — what's the ritual of it?"
3. "What's the best whiskey conversation you've ever had, and where was it?"
4. "Columbus is a control state — what does that do to the scene here, good and bad?"
5. "What's the most underrated distillery in Ohio that nobody's talking about?"
6. "What would you tell a younger version of yourself on day one of this journey?"
7. "What's the one thing you wish more people in this city knew about your [place/club]?"

Segment 6 — Rapid Fire (guaranteed closer, one-word answers fine)
  - Neat, rocks, or old fashioned?
  - Best bottle under $50?
  - Favorite distillery outside Ohio?
  - Rye or wheated?
  - One bottle if your collection was on fire?
  - Most overrated bottle in America right now?
  - Sweetest nose or spiciest finish?
  - Last bottle you bought?
  - Pour for a celebration, pour for a breakup?
  - Hot take, go.
  - Finish: bourbon is better when ____.
  - Best advice for someone starting their collection today?

The Rescue Kit
Five moves
1. The mirror — repeat their one word back: "'…Boring.' Tell me more about that."
2. The pour pivot — "Let's pour another sip while you think about that one." (buys 20s, resets energy)
3. The escalation — "Walk me through that — what did that actually look like?"
4. The curve — "Hold on, I have to ask you about [prepped topic]." (hard cut to a question they can talk about)
5. The defer — "That's a great answer — I want to come back to it, but first…"

Ten verbal bridges (memorize 3)
1. "That's interesting — what made you say that?"
2. "Give me the story behind that."
3. "Was that the plan, or did that happen by accident?"
4. "How did that feel at the time?"
5. "What would you do differently now?"
6. "Who's the person who taught you that?"
7. "What did that cost you — literally or otherwise?"
8. "Did you know that was going to work?"
9. "What's the version of that story you'd tell a friend at a bar?"
10. "Okay — that deserves a pour. Here's to that."

Pre-interview sheet (send 48h before recording)
Ask the guest for:
1. Three pours they love right now → one becomes the tasting segment
2. One story — a moment, failure, win, or weird encounter → becomes "story behind that" hooks
3. One hot take about whiskey → rapid-fire highlight
4. One person who influenced them → origin-segment setup

If they answer even half, the episode can't have dead air — you're interviewing their material.
